    Description

    This 12 1/4 by 6 1/4 by 1 1/4 inch box once held 6 Ladies' Fine Gauge Silk Lisle stockings, They were made by Ipswich Hosiery of Ipswich, Massachusetts. The company opened in 1868 and was in business until the plants closed in 1928 and 1929. The box has the company's fun witch logo in color and also making up the pattern in gold for the background of the box. I found ads for their silk lisle stockings as early as 1912. I think that this box dates from the teens for very early 20's. The cuffs around the hands and the design look a bit old fashioned. Later 1920's ads featured the witch.  The box has some light staining and a few dark spots. There's color loss on the edges and one spit corner.
