Description
THE DANIEL TABLE WARE PATTERNSby Michael Berthoud and Lynne Price, Micawber Publications, England, 1982.
”Henry Daniel was a master enameller and gilder of porcelain. For over twenty years he decorated almost all the porcelain produced by Josiah Spode, a man of meticulously high standards and obsessed with quality. In 1822, and the age of 57, Henry Daniel founded his own china works at Stoke, soon making his mark with the brilliant clarity of his enamels and the flowing grace of his gilding. In 1826 his wares caught the attention of the Earl of Shrewsbury, and he secured the largest, most expensive and most prestigious order for porcelain ever received in the Potteries up to that time. Following Henry’s death in 1841 the firm continued until 1846 under the guidance of Richard Daniel, himself a master of design and in particular of the exuberant ‘revived rococo’ style and flamboyant use of color.”
The purpose of this book is to reconstruct, so far as possible, the Daniel patterns found on table ware. This book lists the various pattern numbers, shape, wares where found, and description. There are very few black-and-white pictures in this booklet, and the reader must rely on the terse descriptions for pattern identification.
8” x 11.5” stapled booklet in very good condition. 25 pages.
